Introduction: Discovering Jebel Qatrani Open Air Museum

Petrified Forest Historical Site: We start in the morning from Cairo and reach the Open Air Museum after about 3 hours.

Nestled within the Petrified Forest area, just north of Lake Qaroun, lies the Jebel Qatrani Open Air Museum. Established in early 2018, this museum offers of course a unique glimpse into the prehistoric world through its impressive collection of fossils.

Petrified Forest Historical Site - Exploring Marine Fossils

Marvel at an array of marine fossils dating back to the Eocene epoch. Witness further the fossilized remains of Archaeocetes, the ancient ancestors of modern whales, providing insight into the evolutionary journey of these magnificent marine mammals.

Encountering Continental Fossils

Delve into the museum's collection of early terrestrial and marshland mammals. Highlights include Aegyptopithicus, fossil ancestors of monkeys, and Phiomia and Palaeomastodon, early relatives of elephants. Explore particularly the origins of these iconic creatures and learn about their ancient habitats.

Petrified Forest Historical Site - Immersive Experience

The Jebel Qatrani Open Air Museum provides an educational and immersive experience for visitors of all ages. Discover in general the ancient past in a natural, open-air setting, surrounded by the rich history of the Petrified Forest.

Afterwards, we refresh ourselves with lunch on the way and visit other historical sites - the ruins of Dimeh and Qasr El Sagha. These historical sites also have much to tell. Walk around and see for yourself.

After a day full of new, exciting impressions, fresh air, and beautiful landscapes, we return finally to Cairo in the evening.
