Cairo · Assiut · Total Solar Eclipse · Western Desert · Kharga · Cairo
31 July – 10 August 2027 | 10 nights / 11 days
Ten nights. One sky-darkening moment. And a stretch of desert most travellers never reach.
OVERVIEW
For eleven days, this journey moves between two extremes: the sudden, total darkness of an eclipsed sun over open desert, and the quiet comfort of Nile-side hotels and world-class museums.
It begins in Cairo, continues south to Assiut, and reaches its defining moment on 2 August 2027, when the Total Solar Eclipse is observed from the Dabuka Desert Observation Camp (see details in important notes) , a site chosen specifically for its uninterrupted view, far from any city lights or crowds.
What follows is not a quick trip home, but an extended expedition deeper into the Western Desert: nights spent camping beneath a sky untouched by light pollution, and days exploring Jara Cave, the dunes of Abu Mukharraq and Dakhla, and the remote Abu Jarrah and Shawshaw Mountain areas, landscapes far removed from Egypt's usual tourist routes.
The pace softens in Kharga Oasis, where a hotel pool and a slower rhythm mark the return to comfort, before the final days bring travellers back to Cairo for the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Pyramids of Giza, a fitting close to a journey that spans both the cosmic and the ancient.

The camp is fully equipped as a dedicated desert day camp with all facilities on site. The drive from the hotel to the camp takes approximately 1.5 hours.

FLIGHTS
Please note that international and domestic flights are not included in the quoted price. Airlines
typically release their flight schedules and fares approximately one year in advance; therefore, flights
for July–August 2027 will become available around September 2026.
Should you wish to receive an offer for international or domestic flights, we kindly ask you to complete
the flight request form on our website. Once flight options become available, we will prepare and
forward an offer for your review.
Please be aware that submitting the request form does not constitute a booking order. We will only
proceed with a flight reservation upon receiving your explicit written approval.
Furthermore, please note that flights are an external service provided solely by the airline, and Dabuka
does not have control over airline-related matters. Any delays, schedule changes, or baggage issues fall

Touch down in Cairo and settle in before the expedition begins. Transfer to the hotel, with the rest of the day free to rest or explore, depending on arrival time.
Overnight: Cairo (BB)
After breakfast, head south to Assiut by private bus.
If enough travellers are interested, we will also look into arranging a private charter flight for a faster transfer, available at an additional cost. Once settled in Assiut, the rest of the day is kept deliberately relaxed, tomorrow begins before dawn.
Overnight: Assiutel Hotel (BB)
This is what the journey has been building toward.
A very early departure from Assiut brings us to the Dabuka Desert Observation Camp, set in open desert chosen specifically for watching the sky.

There is time to arrive, settle in and prepare, and then, at the appointed moment on 2 August 2027, the Moon completely covers the Sun. Day turns to night in the middle of the desert. After the eclipse, we return towards Assiut.
Overnight: Assiutel Hotel (B/L)
After the early start and the intensity of eclipse day, today is intentionally left open. Choose to:
- Sleep in and enjoy a late breakfast
- Relax at the hotel
- Take a quiet day to let it all sink in
Or join an optional programme in and around Assiut, entirely at your own pace.
Overnight: Assiutel Hotel (BB)
The Nile Valley gives way to open desert as we head toward the Abu Mukharraq dunes.
The highlight of the day is Djara Cave, explored on foot with lunch served inside its cool interior, before returning to the dunes for further exploration in the afternoon.
As evening falls, dinner and the first night of camping begin, our first taste of the desert under a sky full of stars.
Overnight: Igloo-style desert tent (FB)
A full day dedicated to one of the Western Desert's most remote corners.
Away from any established route, the focus here is simply the landscape itself, its geology, its silence, its scale.
Dinner and a second night of camping follow, in a place few travellers ever reach.
Overnight: Igloo-style desert tent (FB)
Breakfast is followed by a drive to the Dakhla Sand Dunes
, where lunch is served among the dunes themselves. From there, we continue on to explore the Shawshaw Mountain area, before making camp for a final night in the desert.
Overnight: Igloo-style desert tent (FB)
We leave the desert behind and arrive at the Badr Hotel in Kharga Oasis , a deliberate change of pace after several nights under canvas. The evening is left free:
Relax
Enjoy the swimming pool
Free time
Overnight: Badr Hotel, Kharga (HB)
After breakfast, we begin the return journey to Cairo, by charter flight where possible.
As with any charter service, the flight could in rare cases be cancelled at short notice, in which case we would travel back by private bus instead. On arrival, check-in at the Steigenberger El Tahrir Cairo, with the evening free.
Overnight: Steigenberger El Tahrir Cairo (BB)
After the vast, empty landscapes of the desert, the final full day returns us to the monumental heart of ancient Egypt:
the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Pyramids of Giza , two of the country's most iconic sights, and a striking contrast to where the journey has just been.
Overnight: Steigenberger El Tahrir Cairo (BB)
Breakfast, check-out, and a transfer to Cairo International Airport, the end of an expedition that took in the cosmos and the ancient world in equal measure.
