Ancient Egypt · Sahara 4x4 Adventure · Dark Skies · Total Solar Eclipse
On 2 August 2027, the Moon's shadow crosses Egypt's Western Desert, turning the Sahara dark in the middle of the day.
This is a journey for travellers who want more than a few minutes of totality.
Begin in Cairo with the Pyramids of Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum, then head west into the Sahara by 4x4. Explore the Black Desert, the extraordinary white chalk landscapes of the White Desert and hidden caves before settling into the desert for the most spectacular part of the journey.
And the timing offers another astronomical highlight.
Around 30–31 July, the Southern Delta Aquariids and Alpha Capricornids are both active. Under the dark Egyptian desert sky, you may see meteors and occasional bright fireballs alongside the Milky Way and the summer night sky.
By eclipse day, you are already deep in the Western Desert.
No long transfer on the morning of the eclipse.
No city skyline.
No stadium crowds.
Instead, an open desert horizon, dark skies and the solar corona emerging above the Sahara.
One journey. Two astronomical highlights. One extraordinary landscape.
Limited to 20 guests / 10 rooms.

Overnight: Cairo, Solana Sky Pool Boutique Hotel, (BB)
Today is dedicated to two of Egypt's greatest attractions. Visit the Pyramids of Giza before continuing to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), located beside the Giza Plateau.
The museum is now fully open and houses the major collections of ancient Egyptian history, including the Tutankhamun galleries.
Overnight: Cairo, Solana Sky Pool Boutique Hotel (BB)
Leave Cairo in the morning and travel west towards Bahariya Oasis, the gateway to Egypt's Western Desert and the White Desert.
Bahariya lies roughly 370 km from Cairo. After arrival, begin your desert adventure with 4x4 vehicles and explore the surrounding landscapes.
The nights of 30–31 July 2027 add an extra layer to this journey.
Two meteor showers reach their peak together, the Alpha Capricornids, known less for their numbers than for occasional bright fireballs, and the considerably more active Southern Delta Aquariids, both favoured by dark, moonless skies this year.
Under Egypt's open desert sky, they appear alongside a clear view of the Milky Way, a fitting prelude, just two nights before the total solar eclipse on 2 August.
Overnight: Rahala Hotel Farafra (BB)
Continue deeper into the Western Desert. Travel by 4x4 through the Black Desert, Crystal Mountain and the spectacular White Desert, where wind and time have sculpted the white chalk formations into extraordinary shapes.
As evening approaches, set up camp beneath the desert sky.
Overnight: Rahala Hotel Farafra (BB)
A full day in the desert before the eclipse.
Depending on the final route and access conditions, explore one of the desert's spectacular caves and geological formations.
This is deliberately a slower day: enjoy the landscape, the silence and the enormous open spaces before tomorrow's eclipse.
Overnight: Rahala Hotel Farafra (BB)
Today is the reason for the journey.
We position the group at a carefully selected observation site in the Black/White Desert region, according to the final eclipse path, accessibility and operational conditions.
