Tuna el-Gebel: A Desert of Mysteries
Firstly start your journey at Tuna el-Gebel, the largest cemetery of Greco-Roman Egypt. Located around 270 km south of Cairo, this site unveils moreover a world of ancient temples, tombs, houses, and sanctuaries dedicated to animal worship. Archaeologists have been uncovering its secrets for over a century, revealing artifacts from the Ptolemaic and Roman eras (300 BC–300 AD). The combination of art, religion, and history makes it in fact an unmissable destination.

El-Ashmonein: A Window to the Past

Archeological Sites - Day 1: Arrival and Exploration

8:00 AM: Meet at Cafe Greco, Maadi, Street 9.

Firstly drive for about 3 hours to our private farmhouse or hotel. Check-in and enjoy lunch.

Afterwards, in the afternoon, explore nearby sites, including Sheikh Abada and the temple of Ramsis, a lesser-known gem.

Dinner: Finally enjoy a meal at the farmhouse or hotel.


Day 2: Necropolises and Museums

After breakfast, visit Tuna El-Gebel and Ashmonein. We will also try to visit the newly reopened Mellawi Museum.

Lunch: Served on the road.

Tuna El-Gebel: This necropolis, partly covered by sand, features streets of tombs and ruins. Highlights include the Tomb of Petosiris, a fourth-century BC high priest of Thoth. This tomb is designed like a small temple, decorated in Greco-Egyptian style, with much of its original painting intact.

Dinner: Return to the farmhouse or hotel.


Day 3: Tell al-Amarna

Dedicate occasionally the whole day to exploring Tell al-Amarna, the new capital of Akhenaten.


Day 4: Visit Minya

Explore Minya, also known as Arousset al Sayid. The city is a key link between northern and southern Egypt. Minya, with its high Coptic Christian population, is equally home to Minya University, the Suzanne Mubarak Center for Arts, the new Minya Museum, and regional media outlets.


Day 5: Archeological sites - Farewell and Return

Enjoy leisure time exploring the area, including nearby mountain caves.

After lunch, finally bid farewell to our hosts. On the way back to Cairo, visit the ancient cemetery of Beni Hassan. This site features elaborate tomb layouts and decorations, marking a transitional style from the Old Kingdom to the New Kingdom.

  2. If you cancel between 7 days and 48 hours before the scheduled tour date you will incur a 50% cancellation fee.
  3. Less than 48 hours before the scheduled tour date, as well as no-shows, are non-refundable.
  4. In the event of unforeseen circumstances or force majeure, such as extreme weather conditions or government-imposed travel restrictions, we reserve the right to cancel the tour. In such cases, a full refund will be provided to the customer.
  5. Any changes or cancellations to your booking must be communicated to us in writing via email or phone call.
