Overview

From EUR 1,090 per person. Book by enquiry or WhatsApp; our team confirms availability and the final price.

Leave the lights of Cairo behind and spend warm August nights in the silence of the Western Desert, watching the Perseids – one of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year. Born from the dust of Comet Swift–Tuttle, Perseid meteors enter the atmosphere at almost 60 kilometres per second: fast, bright, often leaving glowing trails, and with a well-earned reputation for fireballs. Far from any artificial light, the desert sky over Egypt is among the clearest and darkest on Earth, the perfect stage for the show.

As a bonus, the Alpha Capricornids may still be active during your stay. This minor shower is famous for rare, slow and strikingly bright fireballs, an extra chance of a spectacular surprise streaking across the sky alongside the Perseids.

Instead of sleeping mats and basic tents, you stay in comfortable glamping tents with real beds, full board and time to relax in the shade of the camp during the day. And unlike a winter trip, August brings mild desert nights: no heavy jackets, no freezing hours, just a light layer, a comfortable spot on the sand and the whole Milky Way above you. No astronomy knowledge is needed, just an open sky and a little patience.

What Makes This Trip Special

Fireball season: The Perseids are fast, bright and famous for fireballs and glowing trails, debris of Comet Swift–Tuttle entering the atmosphere at almost 60 km per second.

Two showers in one trip: The tail end of the Alpha Capricornids may add rare, slow and strikingly bright fireballs to the Perseid display.

Warm summer nights: Mild August nights in the desert, no heavy jackets, no freezing hours, just a light layer and hours of comfortable watching under the Milky Way.

Desert glamping: Comfortable tents with real beds, full board and a shaded camp to rest in during the heat of the day.

Timed to the Moon: On the peak night we watch through the darkest hours after moonset (around 1:30 AM) until dawn, when the brightest Perseids stand out best.

Three desert nights, including the peak: The night before, the peak night itself and the night after, a built-in backup and more chances to see the show.

The eclipse connection: The perfect sequel to the Total Solar Eclipse of 2 August 2027, first the darkness of totality at midday, then shooting stars in the desert.

Already in Egypt for the Total Solar Eclipse?

If you are travelling to Egypt for the Total Solar Eclipse on 2 August 2027, simply extend your stay by just over a week and turn it into a complete Egyptian sky adventure: first the darkness of totality at midday, then three nights of shooting stars in the desert.

Important information

This price is for a shared double tent.

Glamping means "glamorous camping" = tents like small bungalows with real beds and furniture. Meals are served at a proper dining area with tables and chairs.

Life in a true wilderness camp
Our glamping camp is set up deep in the open desert, far from any village, road or artificial light, which is exactly what makes the night sky so spectacular. The camp has toilets, but as there is no running water out here, there are no showers. Our team provides water for washing, and your packing list includes a few simple tips for staying fresh in the desert. And after three nights under the stars, a long hot shower awaits you at the Royal Regency Hotel in Cairo.

After booking we provide a detailed packing list.

Day 1- 10 August 2027: Arrival in Cairo

Arrival at Cairo International Airport, where you are met and transferred to the Royal Regency Hotel. The rest of the day is free to rest and settle in after your journey.

Overnight in Royal Regency Hotel, Cairo (BB).

Day 2 - 11 August 2027: Into the Western Desert

After breakfast, we leave the city behind and drive out into the Western Desert.

In the afternoon we reach our glamping camp in the Abu Mohareq Dunes, with time to settle into your tent and enjoy the first desert sunset.

After dinner, the lights go out and the sky takes over: the Perseids are already very active on the night before the peak, a first taste of what is to come.

Overnight at the desert glamping camp (FB).

Day 3 - 12 August 2027: A Day in the Dunes & Perseid Peak Night

A slow morning after the first night under the stars.

The cooler early morning and late afternoon hours are ideal for exploring the surrounding dunes at a relaxed pace; during the heat of midday, the shade of the camp invites you to rest and recharge for the night ahead.

Tonight is the peak of the Perseids. A bright gibbous Moon will be up in the first part of the night and will outshine the fainter meteors, so we enjoy dinner, the evening sky and the brightest early Perseids first.

After moonset, at around 1:30 AM, the desert turns fully dark: until dawn, the sky belongs to the meteors, and with a little luck a lingering Alpha Capricornid fireball joins them.

Overnight at the desert glamping camp (FB).

Day 4 - 13 August 2027: Second night of the show

Another unhurried day in the desert, sleep in, explore, relax in the shade.

Perseid activity remains strong on the night after the peak, making this a wonderful second chance: a backup night should conditions not be perfect, or simply round two of the show.

Overnight at the desert glamping camp (FB).

Day 5 - 14 August 2027: Return to Cairo

After a last breakfast in the desert, we drive back to Cairo.

Check-in at the Royal Regency Hotel, with the rest of the day free, time for a long shower, a well-earned rest or a first stroll through the city.
