50 million years of Egypt
Luxor and Aswan are some of the must-see places in Egypt – topped with an oases tour, it becomes unbeatable.
Dabuka’s desert tours take you deep into legendary dune regions like Egypt’s Great Sand Sea, Oman’s Rub’ al Khali, or Morocco’s golden Erg Chebbi. Each destination reveals a different face of the desert: wind-sculpted formations, salt plains, fossil beds, and endless horizons. Our routes are designed to balance adventure and insight – from day trips to multi-day expeditions.
Whether by 4×4, on foot, or atop a camel, you’ll experience the grandeur of these wild places in a personal and immersive way.
Looking for a more intense encounter? Our desert safari packages focus on action and depth: dune bashing, sandboarding, and sunset drives alternate with stargazing, Bedouin-style campfires, and silent walks under the Milky Way. These desert adventures are all about contrast – thrill and tranquility, movement and stillness.
Especially popular are our Sahara desert tours, which combine iconic landscapes with historical sites, like the caravan routes near Siwa or the remote valleys of the Gilf Kebir.
Wherever the desert relents, oases bring life and culture. Our oasis tours explore magical spots like Tunisia’s Chebika, Egypt’s Siwa, or Oman’s Wadi Bani Khalid. Picture palm groves, mudbrick villages, freshwater springs, and age-old rituals that are still alive today. In these lush enclaves, you don’t just visit – you slow down, sip tea under the trees, and become part of the rhythm.
Desert and oasis travel isn’t about ticking boxes – it’s about presence. These journeys speak to those who seek clarity, nature, and unfiltered encounters. You’ll return not only with photos, but with stories, sensations, and moments of silence you didn’t know you were missing.
Dabuka understands 'Desert & Oasis Journeys' as a combination of active nature experiences and cultural impressions. This includes days spent in dune landscapes, on table mountains or by salt lakes, as well as stays in oases with gardens, springs and traditional life. Old towns, rock art and monasteries are often included. Depending on the destination—such as Egypt or Oman—driving times and accommodation range from tent camps to lodges and differ in comfort level. The tours are deliberately unhurried to allow enjoyment of sunrises and sunsets, light hikes and the starry sky. Details such as vehicle type (4x4 or minibus), daily stages and packing advice are given in the itinerary.
The best travel season for desert and oasis journeys is from October to April. During this period daytime temperatures are pleasant for hikes, stargazing and campfire evenings while nights remain cool. For Egypt, February to April and October to December are particularly suitable; in Oman November to March are the most popular months. Summer trips are possible but require very early starts, consistent sun protection, head covering and disciplined hydration. Depending on desired activities—such as sandboarding or astrophotography—we can advise on optimal dates.
A typical desert trip starts with arrival on day one and a short briefing. Drives in 4x4 vehicles on tracks follow, combined with photo stops and short hikes of one to three hours. Lunch breaks take place in the shade; in the late afternoon the camp is set up. The evening ends with a warm meal and stargazing. Sanitation facilities are usually simple and close to nature, with improvised solutions depending on the region.
Desert trips with Dabuka are considered safe because routes and procedures are planned and guided by experienced teams. Guides know local conditions and adapt routes accordingly. Participants should bring basic equipment such as sun protection, sturdy shoes and necessary personal medications. Close supervision ensures a high level of safety throughout the trip.
Generally our desert offerings are suitable for travelers with average fitness. People with severe back problems should be aware that drives are often bumpy and camp beds can be basic. In general, a willingness to improvise and to deal with changing weather conditions is helpful. A pre-trip medical check-up is recommended.
