Adrenaline is the survival hormone, enhancing our perception through neurotransmitters in the brain. So an adrenaline rush increases blood sugar, providing a boost of energy. According to Firdaus Dhabhar’s experiment at Stanford University, this can in fact slow cancer formation and strengthen the immune defense.

Do we need adrenaline rushes? Science journalist Urs Wellmann says, stress makes us awake, healthy, and fit. “We need stress to live,” according to Dr. Peter Heilmeyer, head of the rehabilitation clinic in Isny. In addition to warning about Burn-Out Syndrome, he warns about Bore-Out Syndrome. Dr. Joachim Kugler, psychologist and physician at the Technical University in Dresden, said: “Stress ensures that we evolve. It is the path to self-actualization.”

But do you know that particular feeling of butterflies in your stomach when you’re full of anticipation and excitement about doing something wonderful? Waking up each day thinking: “Now, now, now… I’m looking forward to everything that’s coming, life is good!” This feeling often resides in the desert. Just like on our round trip from Hurghada through the Western Desert and back.

Travel the ancient caravan routes of the Bedouins through sand dunes, which also serve as overnight camps. Even today, our Bedouin guides can tell you many stories.

Tip: For those who think they have back problems and therefore cannot sleep on the ground—the sand dunes are a soft bed. In fact you just need to shovel your sleeping spot to fit your body before bedtime.

And if you think the desert—and this one in particular—is just a landscape, you are mistaken. The special energy felt in certain places heals generally stress, tension, and other ailments of civilization. However, we also know that not everyone is keen on going without a shower for very long. Therefore, this tour is planned so that on day 4, we stay overnight in a Bedouin camp. Here a warm shower will provide a particularly good sense of well-being. A warm spring opposite the camp is also available for a different kind of bathing fun. Since the camp is near the Dakhla Oasis, we will naturally visit this noteworthy oasis. Its picturesque old town, whose origins are in the Islamic era is certainly worth a visit. We also find beautiful spots to enjoy a sunset. The tour then leads to the Kharga Oasis with the Hibis and Bagawat temples, as well as Coptic graves. A final night outdoors in the area of Umm Labakha invites you to dream. Afterwards the journey comes full circle the next day back in Hurghada.

Interesting facts about Bedouins:

For centuries, information among Bedouins was passed down orally, through stories and poems. It came often with rhythm and melody, discussing politics and economics, sometimes accompanied by dances. Usually, several individuals engage in a kind of call-and-response singing. Even today, it may happen in the evening by the campfire that some crew members grab pots, spoons, or other objects and start to sing.

From the sand to the water – in Egypt Red Sea diving is definitely among the things not to be forgotten.
