Die Sonne geht unter und taucht die Palmen in der Oase in goldenes Licht.

Grand Oases Tour:  “The most beautiful place where reality seems completely unreal is a desert oasis!” ― Mehmet Murat ildan

There are some areas in this world that speak their own language. They are so impressive that you have to see and experience them to understand.

Sometimes it’s like a window to the world – it’s not always open, but if that’s the case, then you should undoubtedly take the chance to see what’s behind it.

Route: Cairo – El Alamein – Siwa – Great Sand Sea – Bahareya – Black Desert – White Desert – Farafra – Dakhla – Kharga – Um Dabadib – Labaka – Bagawat – Cairo (alternatively: Luxor). Accommodation in traditional hotels.

So, here the journey alone is the goal. All you have to do in the morning is get into one of our off-road vehicles and drive towards the horizon. Depending on the time of the day, light and shadow paint special pictures along the way. And a great feeling of freedom makes you curious about what may come. A Grand Oases Tour is simply magic.

Grand Oases Tour: Siwa Oasis

Siwa oasis is rich in craft traditions like pottery, baskets and jewelry. Furthermore, they use five main colours in their crafts: red, green, orange, yellow and black. They symbolise the fruit of the date tree at different stages of maturity. “Siwa is a Utopia –nearly, which has a very special way of life. We don’t have a court. The tribal rules govern us. Social support in weddings and funerals is another rule that governs us. Perhaps the union feast is the best example for that,” relayed Omran Jeery, a tour guide. However –  don’t forget to taste the olive jam!

Bahareya Oasis:

Bahareya Oasis is the closest oasis to Cairo. It is famous also for its hot wells where you could overcome rheumatism. Enjoy sunset under palm trees in a private garden or visit the old English house called Williams house. Of course, visiting this oasis also brings with it the wonders of the Black and White Desert.

Healing with Wild Herbs in Farafra:

Farafra Oasis is a small oasis in the Western Desert, 170 km south of Bahareya. Here you find a particularly wonderful collection of wild plants and herbs that can be used in healing. For example:

  • Ashar, Hibiscus, Mint, and Damsasa: With all of them you can treat rheumatism, in addition to the uses of mint in diseases of the digestive system and colic of all kinds.

El-Dakhla Oasis:

El-Dakhla Oasis in the Western Desert is around 200km away from El-Kharga. People think that it is  the most beautiful of the oases in that part of Egypt.

El-Qasr is the main attraction in Dakhla Oasis. The medieval mud-brick houses and the twisting and turning alleyways are some of the features that distinguish the village. The village was built in the 12th century during the Ayyubid period on the remains of an earlier Roman settlement. It should serve as the capital of the El-Dakhla Oasis district. Indeed, it is one of the few villages that still exist from that era.

Grand Oases Tour – at night:

And sometimes while traveling you jump a bit out of our so-called “normal times”:

Once a guest was sitting at night at the hotel entrance to read a book. Soon two hotel staff interrupted him, Adel and Hussein, who started a little chat. And the magic of the desert night led them into the omnipresent realm of the supernatural.

Adel was explaining how certain Sheikhs have the power to enslave jinn and use them to “pull” treasures buried deep under the ground. Treasures such as Pharaonic statues, gold, and red mercury. This is an extremely rare and valuable substance that people used for mummification.

A proficient Sheikh is not only able to “pull” treasure from a certain site, but can also do so from a distance. Furthermore, Sheikh’s differ in their “pulling” power. Some can “pull” at a depth of fifteen kilometers, others at five, and others can only fix a treasure’s place in the ground. As for the jinn, they inhabit the different layers of the earth and have the power to possess people.

Once possessed, a person would behave in bizarre ways, and would return to normality only when the jinn leave their body.

At that, Adel recounted a story of a man who used to lock himself in a public bathroom and talk to himself.

Adel found him there once, and asked him to get out. A voice responded straightaway: “Leave him alone”. This, Adel explained, was without doubt a jinn talking through the man. Adel threatened the jinn with a beating if he doesn’t leave.  A few minutes later the man opened the bathroom door, was crying and left the building.

In addition, Hussein gave support to this anecdote, confirming that the possessing jinn could leave the body after the possessed person is beaten. He said that a beating is directed, essentially, at the jinn and the person feels nothing.

Finally, the guest traveled on the next morning, the day had him again – but the stories of the night accompanied him.

Kharga Oasis:

The importance of the Kharga Oasis resides in the variety of its features. Its outstanding but little-known antiquities, paired with its distinctive geological and environmental features, produce a unique combination of cultural and natural heritage. Surely people should  acknowledge, preserve and transmit it to future generations, for learning and enjoyment.

Great Sand Sea:

Oases get their name from the fact that they are resting places in the desert.

One of the most impressive deserts in Egypt is certainly the Great Sand Sea. It stretches about 650 km (400 mi) from north to south and 300 km (190 mi) from east to west.

A sea of sand whose dunes invite you to take a “bath” in it. It can also be compared to the feeling of flying. A trip into the weightlessness of sand dune driving gives you a tingling feeling of happiness in your stomach.
